|Target/Specificity||The synthetic peptide sequence used to generate the antibody AP1970a was selected from the N-term region of human Smg-2. A 10 to 100 fold molar excess to antibody is recommended. Precise conditions should be optimized for a particular assay.|

|Function||RNA-dependent helicase and ATPase required for nonsense- mediated decay (NMD) of mRNAs containing premature stop codons. Is recruited to mRNAs upon translation termination and undergoes a cycle of phosphorylation and dephosphorylation; its phosphorylation appears to be a key step in NMD. The formation of an smg-2-3-4 surveillance complex is believed to activate NMD (By similarity).|

Smg-2 eliminates the production of nonsense-containing RNAs. This protein is phosphorylated probably by smg-1. Smg-3 and smg-4 are required for phosphorylation.
