Precautions | Endothelial Lipase Antibody is for research use only and not for use in diagnostic or therapeutic procedures. |
Name | LIPG |
---|---|
Function | Exerts both phospholipase and triglyceride lipase activities (PubMed:10192396, PubMed:10318835, PubMed:12032167). More active as a phospholipase than a triglyceride lipase (PubMed:12032167). Hydrolyzes triglycerides, both with short-chain fatty acyl groups (tributyrin) and long-chain fatty acyl groups (triolein) with similar levels of activity toward both types of substrates (PubMed:12032167). Hydrolyzes high density lipoproteins (HDL) more efficiently than other lipoproteins (PubMed:10192396, PubMed:12032167). |
Cellular Location | Secreted. |
Tissue Location | High level of expression in the liver, placenta, lung, thyroid, kidney, testis and in the corpus luteum of the ovary Expressed also in coronary artery endothelial cells, umbilical vein endothelial cells and in hepatocytes and osteosarcoma cell lines. Not detected in heart, brain and muscle. |

Background
Endothelial lipase (EL) is a member of the triglyceride lipase gene family. It functions primarily as a phospholipase and has low triglyceride lipase activity. It was originally cloned from endothelial cells and found to be expressed in high level in the liver, placenta, lung, ovary, and macrophage. The wide spread distribution of this protein s µggests it plays a general role in lipid metabolism. Human endothelial lipase has an estimated molecular weight of 57 kDa.
