Background Descriptions | Vanin-2 is a 520 amino acid GPI-anchor protein that belongs to the CN hydrolase family and BTD/VNN subfamily.Widely expressed with high expression in spleen and blood, vanin-2 is suggested to be involved in thymus homing of bone marrow cells, regulation of Integrin ∫2-mediated cell adhesion, and migration and motility of neutrophils. Vanin-2 exists as five alternatively spliced isoforms and is encoded by a gene mapping to human chromosome 6q23.2. |

Name | VNN2 (HGNC:12706) |
---|---|
Function | Amidohydrolase that hydrolyzes specifically one of the carboamide linkages in D-pantetheine thus recycling pantothenic acid (vitamin B5) and releasing cysteamine (PubMed:11491533). Involved in the thymus homing of bone marrow cells. May regulate beta-2 integrin- mediated cell adhesion, migration and motility of neutrophil. |
Cellular Location | Cell membrane; Lipid-anchor, GPI- anchor |
Tissue Location | Widely expressed with higher expression in spleen and blood. |
