Purity | Anti-HEXOKINASE (RABBIT) Antibody is an IgG fraction antibody purified from monospecific antiserum by a multi-step process which includes delipidation, salt fractionation and ion exchange chromatography followed by extensive dialysis against the buffer stated above. Assay by immunoelectrophoresis resulted in a single precipitin arc against anti-peroxidase, anti-Rabbit Serum as well as purified and partially purified Hexokinase [Yeast]. Cross reactivity against Hexokinase from other tissues and species is expected based on sequence homology. |
Storage Condition | Store vial at 4° C prior to restoration. For extended storage aliquot contents and freeze at -20° C or below. Avoid cycles of freezing and thawing. Centrifuge product if not completely clear after standing at room temperature. This product is stable for several weeks at 4° C as an undiluted liquid. Dilute only prior to immediate use. |
Precautions Note | This product is for research use only and is not intended for therapeutic or diagnostic applications. |
Name | HXK1 |

Synonyms | HKA |
Function | Catalyzes the phosphorylation of hexose, such as D-glucose and D-fructose, to hexose 6-phosphate (D-glucose 6-phosphate and D- fructose 6-phosphate, respectively) (PubMed:332086). Mediates the initial step of glycolysis by catalyzing phosphorylation of D-glucose to D-glucose 6-phosphate (PubMed:332086). |

Background
HEXOKINASE Antibody is specific for hexokinase. Hexokinase is an enzyme that phosphorylates hexoses (six-carbon sugars), forming hexose phosphate. In most organisms, glucose is the most important substrate of hexokinases, and glucose-6-phosphate the most important product. Hexokinases should not be confused with glucokinase, which is a specific isoform of hexokinase. While other hexokinases are capable of phosphorylating several hexoses, glucokinase acts with a 50-fold lower substrate affinity and its only hexose substrate is glucose. Anti Hexokinase is ideal for investigators involved in glucose energy metabolism, enzymes and AKT signaling research.
