Background
This gene encodes a protein that is highly similar to therat CaM-KII inhibitory protein, an inhibitor ofcalcium/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase II (CAMKII). CAMKIIregulates numerous physiological functions, including neuronalsynaptic plasticity through the phosphorylation ofalpha-amino-3-hydroxy-5-methyl-4-isoxazolepropionic acid-typeglutamate (AMPA) receptors. Studies of the similar protein in ratsuggest that this protein may function as a negative regulator ofCaM-KII and may act to inhibit the phosphorylation of AMPAreceptors.
