Background
The adenovirus E1A protein both activates and repressesgene expression to promote cellular proliferation and inhibitdifferentiation. The protein encoded by this gene antagonizestranscriptional activation and cellular transformation by E1A. Thisprotein shares limited sequence similarity with E1A and binds boththe general transcription factor TBP and the tumor suppressor pRbin vitro. This gene may contribute to the transcriptional controlof cell growth and differentiation.
